-The experiment of mixing 10 percent ethanol in diesel in BPCL’s research laboratory was successful, till now only ethanol was being mixed with petrol.

Greater Noida. Bharat Petroleum Company Limited’s Research and Development Center has discovered a method for blending 10 percent ethanol in diesel. If its use in vehicles as a pilot project is successful, then about 1000 crore liters of diesel per year can be saved in the country. This will save foreign exchange to the extent of Rs 50,000 crore per year. In a press conference held at Surajpur center, the company’s executive director Ravi PS told that the pilot project will start in the first week of June.
ADG PIB & MO P&G Rajeev Jain, Chief General Manager R&D Navalkar BL, Chief General Manager PR & Brand Syed Abbas, Chief General Manager IC R&D Woollapalli RK also informed about other research done by the research center. Executive Director Ravi PS said that till now ethanol is not mixed with diesel. A chemical has been prepared in research, whose presence of less than one percent dissolves ethanol in diesel. To test its effect on vehicles, a contract has been signed with Original Equipment Manufacturers (Organization of Major Vehicle Manufacturers) as a pilot project throughout the week. Vehicles will be tested with a mixture made by mixing 10 percent ethanol with diesel. Apart from this, the Automotive Research of India (ARAI) Pune agency will also test it. It can be implemented after passing the test at both the places.
It was claimed that by the year 2025-26, there is a plan to increase ethanol in petrol from 10 percent to 20 percent. This will save 450 to 500 crore liters of petrol across the country. Till now ethanol is made only from sugarcane. Now ethanol will be made in large quantities from rice, food waste etc. Officials said that there are 164 patents from the R&D center. These include 87 patents granted, 17 technologies/products commercialized in multiple countries, and over 230 scientific papers and book chapters.
