    1. Workers Party of Britain candidate George Galloway wins the Rochdale by-election by almost 6,000 votes
    2. The former Labour and Respect Party MP, whose campaign focused heavily on Gaza, overturns a Labour majority with 12,335 votes
    3. Galloway addresses the Labour leader in his victory speech by saying: “Keir Starmer, this is for Gaza”
    4. In response, the party says “Galloway only won because Labour did not stand” and apologises to the people of Rochdale for being unable to field a candidate
    5. David Tully, an independent, comes second with 6,638 votes. Turnout in the by-election was 39.7%
    6. Voters went to the polls on Thursday to choose a new MP to represent the Greater Manchester town following the death of Sir Tony Lloyd last month
    7. Eleven candidates contested the by-election and the result marks a rejection of the major parties, with Labour, the Conservatives and the Lib Dems performing poorly
