GABARONE, Feb 28 (Reuters)Botswana will open up its beef business to permit farmers to export their meat straight, the minister of agricultural improvement and meals safety informed parliament late on Thursday.

The state-owned Botswana Meat Fee (BMC) is presently the only entity licensed to export beef, with farmers complaining they’re compelled to promote to the loss-making organisation for low costs and that fee usually comes late.

Like its neighbours South Africa and Namibia, Botswana is a giant exporter of beef, and was the ninth largest beef exporter to the European Union in 2019, although its earnings from beef exports have dropped from $130 million in 2010 to $80 million in 2018.
