Rabat – NAPS has announced a strategic partnership with the Moroccan Federation of Currency Exchange Companies to support the modernization of Morocco’s currency exchange sector, following new regulations that allow exchange offices to accept electronic payments via point-of-sale terminals.
NAPS is a Moroccan fintech specializing in electronic payment solutions, including POS services, e-commerce, and multi-service cards. A subsidiary of the M2M Group, the company develops technologies aimed at expanding financial inclusion and improving the performance of digital payments.
The agreement formalizes months of collaboration between the two parties and aims to support affiliated exchange offices in the operational rollout of the new regulatory framework.
At the core of the partnership is an integrated, turnkey technological offering developed specifically to meet the operational and compliance needs of currency exchange operators.
Under the partnership, NAPS is deploying a dedicated POS application across affiliated exchange offices which will enable the acceptance of international bank cards.
The solution also includes Afrikard, a payment card onto which exchanged dirham amounts can be loaded instantly, offering customers a secure digital alternative to cash withdrawals.
According to NAPS, the solution reflects its end-to-end control of the payment chain, allowing it to tailor tools to the specific requirements of the exchange sector.
The setup is expected to expand payment options for exchange offices, improve customer experience, and strengthen transaction traceability.
The rollout comes as Morocco prepares to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025, a context in which secure, efficient, and internationally aligned payment solutions are seen as increasingly necessary.
By reducing reliance on cash and reinforcing payment security, the initiative seeks to facilitate transactions for visitors while aligning exchange operations with international standards.
“This partnership with NAPS represents a major step in the digital transformation of currency exchange offices in Morocco,” said Abderrazzak Mahmoudi, President of the Moroccan Federation of Currency Exchange Companies.
“The solutions were developed on a tailor-made basis and in close coordination with the Federation to respond to the specific nature of our profession and the new regulatory orientations. Today, we have a modern and secure payment ecosystem adapted to our activity, marking a clear shift away from a model historically centered on cash.”
Beyond the upcoming tournament, both parties say that the initiative is part of a longer-term effort to modernize Morocco’s financial and tourism ecosystems.
Morocco has stepped up efforts to modernize its infrastructure as it prepares to host a series of major international events, including the 2025 AFCON and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Authorities and public and private operators have accelerated upgrades across transport, hospitality, digital services, and financial systems to meet international standards and manage the expected influx of visitors.
These initiatives aim to improve service quality, strengthen operational efficiency, and position Morocco as a reliable host for large-scale global events.
