Bradford City Football Club is at the receiving end of a takeover bid from US based cryptocurrency investors WAGMI United.

The company had told the Washington Post that it was in advanced stages to buy an unnamed English club, with Bradford chairman Stefen Rupp confirming it was the Yorkshire side.

However, while Rupp confirms the interest, he dismisses any notion that a change of ownership is imminent.

WAGMI will reportedly use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of its new ownership model.

It will aim to use the NFTs as a cornerstone of the club’s blueprint, hoping to “build a vibrant, and financially invested, digital community,” it told the Washington Post.

According to the Washington Post, it will use the revenue streams created from the NFTs to fund analysis and outspend its opponents in a bid to secure promotion.

A confirmed crypto related takeover that was announced on Thursday was Ross McCormack purchasing tenth division side Bedford FC.

The podcaster and Bitcoin investor plans to make his local team the first ‘Bitcoin club’, by introducing Bitcoin focused merchandise, as well as introducing an education training programme for fans and members of the community.
