Tether has frozen US$150mln worth of the USDT ‘stablecoin’, with three different addresses added to the platform’s ‘blacklist’.

USDT is the stablecoin used on the Tether platform which maintains a like-for-like peg to the US dollar – effectively it allows holders to take a cash equivalent position that keeps their funds in crypto.

Tether, which retains a centralised oversight to the system, has a track record of blacklisting user addresses to freeze funds of users that are believed to be involved in scams, hacks, or other forms of crime.

However, the platform did not give reasons why the latest blacklistings took place.

A report in Cointelegraph, meanwhile, noted that 563 addresses have been blacklisted on Tether since the first freeze-out took place in November 2017.

Some 312 were frozen last year.

Based on market capitalisation the Tether USDT is the fourth largest crypto.
