The principle gasoline provide line to the U.S. East Coast was shut down on Friday after the pipeline’s operator was hit by a cyber assault.

The assault on the Colonial Pipeline, which runs 5,500 miles and gives practically half the gasoline used on the East Coast, affected a few of the firm’s IT programs. Colonial mentioned in an announcement late Friday it has engaged an unidentified third-party cybersecurity agency to research the incident, and has contacted legislation enforcement and different federal companies.

The corporate mentioned the method is underway to revive its service and return to regular operations. The FBI, the Division of Vitality and Federal Vitality Regulatory Fee couldn’t be instantly reached for remark.
