AEW’s CM Punk debuts on FX show ‘Mayans M.C.’ – WON/F4W

AEW’s CM Punk debuted on FX’s Mayans M.C. on Tuesday, playing a military veteran that engages in a conversation with regular show character Gilly.

Mayans showrunner Elgin James told Gamespot that it won’t be Punk’s only appearance on the show this season as they created the character with him in mind.

“We knew we wanted to get into the storyline with (Gilly) and to do right by the veterans. And then we kind of were like, ‘Well, what are the right ingredients to tell this story?’ And then this is a perfect opportunity to finally work with Phil (Brooks). He’s the man.”

The two became friends through living the straight edge lifestyle.

“Straight edge, bro. We’re both on the straight edge world. We met a few years ago and I was just like, ‘Yo, I gotta do something with this dude. We gotta find something.'”

James said Vincent “Rocco” Vargas who plays Gilly talked to Punk for nearly an hour before that first day of shooting. Additionally, there were veterans on set who shared their story which added to the weight of the performance.

“So the weight was on Punk’s shoulders to do this right. And of course, there’s no one else you want that weight on because that dude’s just a savage. He just brought it, not only physically but also emotionally.”

This is Punk’s latest foray into acting as he has been part of Starz wrestling drama Heels and the horror movie Girl on the Third Floor.

Mayans, the spinoff series of the popular Sons of Anarchy show, airs Tuesdays on FX.

Punk is set to face AEW World Champion Hangman Page for the title at this month’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas.
