Kerala man held for Rs 35L forex scam

Panaji: A 26-year-old Kerala resident, Muhammed Hajish, was arrested by Goa police on Thursday for allegedly cheating a person from Porvorim of over Rs35 lakh by luring him to invest in foreign exchange trading.
“Cybercrime police station registered an offence based on a complaint from a resident of Porvorim,” said superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Gupta.“The complainant alleged that prior to Aug 16, 2024, users of Telegram IDs @Aswathi_1430, @AdmiralmarketGlobalLtdCS, and others acting with common intent contacted the complainant and lured him into investing in forex trading with promises of high returns,” he said.
To withdraw his investment, the complainant was told to transfer Rs35.6 lakh across different transactions to various bank accounts, resulting in financial fraud by “impersonation through computer sources”.
During the investigation which involved technical and financial analysis, a suspect was traced to Malappuram, Kerala, who withdrew a portion of the defrauded amount.
“A police team was sent to Kerala who arrested Hajish, residing at Malappuram in Kerala for his involvement in this crime,” Gupta said. He said that during the investigation, it was revealed that the accused’s bank account was connected to similar frauds spanning five different states with a total of Rs1.1 crore involved in these crimes. The accused is currently in police custody and further investigation is being conducted by PI Deepak Pednekar of cybercrime police station.
