California wildfires intensify amid hurricane-force winds, forcing evacuations, energy shutoffs

California’s governor declared a statewide emergency on Sunday as wildfires fueled by excessive winds proceed to ravage components of the state and thousands and thousands are left with out energy due to deliberate energy shutoffs.

The California Division of Forestry & Hearth Safety, or CalFire, reported 162,693 acres burned, 405 buildings broken or destroyed, and three fatalities as of Sunday.

The Kincade Hearth in Sonoma County, the most important of the fires burning within the state, has unfold to greater than 54,000 acres. Solely 5% of this hearth has been contained. Early Sunday, the Kincade Hearth had solely unfold to 30,000 acres, with 10% thought of contained.
