Ousted Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn, who was awaiting trial on legal prices in Japan, on Tuesday confirmed reports that he’s left the country and is in Lebanon.

“I’m now in Lebanon and can not be held hostage by a rigged Japanese justice system the place guilt is presumed, discrimination is rampant, and fundamental human rights are denied, in flagrant disregard of Japan’s authorized obligations below worldwide legislation and treaties it’s certain to uphold,” Ghosn stated in a press release.

“I’ve not fled justice — I’ve escaped injustice and political persecution. I can now lastly talk freely with the media, and sit up for beginning subsequent week,” he added.

Japan’s Ministry of Justice did not instantly reply to CNBC’s request for touch upon Ghosn’s assertion.
