Media scion Lachlan Murdoch reportedly paid $150 million for an property in Los Angeles’ Bel Air neighborhood, making it the costliest house ever offered within the metropolis.
Based on The Wall Avenue Journal, Murdoch — the eldest son of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch — is the client of the 10-acre property being offered by the property of the late A. Jerrold Perenchio. Perenchio, who died in 2017, was the chairman and CEO of Univision.
The property, generally known as Chartwell, has a storied historical past. Its exterior was used within the credit of “The Beverly Hillbillies” TV collection. It was constructed within the 1930s and later owned by Chicago hotelier Arnold Kirkeby. Perenchio purchased it in 1986 for $14 million and over time, added three adjoining parcels of land. In 2016, he acquired the neighboring former house of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, which can also be included within the Murdoch sale.
The property had initially been listed for $350 million, however bought a worth lower to $195 million in August .
