President Donald Trump stated Tuesday that he’s not bluffing about the potential of slapping tariffs on European vehicles.
“They know that I will put tariffs on them if they do not make a deal that is a good deal,” the president instructed The Wall Street Journal about ongoing commerce negotiations with the European Union.
Trump’s risk to place tariffs on a key European export — and as soon as once more ratchet up commerce tensions with the financial bloc — has sparked backlash from European officers and firms. The White Home has repeatedly delayed a call on whether or not to place tariffs on vehicles from Europe. Trump didn’t disclose to the newspaper a deadline for his tariff choice.
The president made the feedback Tuesday as authorities and enterprise figures together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Fee President Ursula von der Leyen gathered on the World Financial Discussion board in Davos, Switzerland.
