Coronavirus: David Cameron’s tutor Prof Peter Sinclair dies

A professor who taught David Cameron at Oxford College has died after contracting coronavirus.

Prof Peter Sinclair, 73, was the long run PM’s tutor when Mr Cameron studied philosophy, politics and economics at Brasenose School within the 1980s.

He joined the Economics Division on the College of Birmingham in 1994.

Mr Cameron paid tribute to Prof Sinclair, saying he was “one of many kindest, in addition to one of many cleverest folks I ever met”.

He added: “His enthusiasm for economics and fixing issues was extraordinary and he impressed generations of scholars.”

The previous prime minister stated it was a “full privilege to know him”.

The Dean of the Birmingham Enterprise Faculty, Prof Catherine Cassell, stated the emeritus professor of economics was “enthused when discussing how economics may make the world a greater place”.

The college stated Prof Sinclair, who’s survived by his spouse, Jayne Ivimey, died on Tuesday after spending “some weeks in intensive care battling Covid-19”.

Earlier than taking on his publish in Birmingham, he taught economics at Oxford for 24 years.
