Pauline Latham stated she was “in a state of misery” on the time of the tweet

An MP has apologised after telling a constituent who requested her about statutory sick pay to “get a life”.

Mid Derbyshire’s Conservative MP Pauline Latham responded to a constituent who had asked if £94 per week was sufficient to reside on.

Ms Latham has stated that on the time she tweeted her reply she was “in a state of misery”.

She added this was as a result of she couldn’t carry her brother house from Spain due to coronavirus.

The MP wrote: “I have to apologise for the Tweet to a constituent over the weekend.

“On the time, I used to be in Spain in a state of misery having simply visited my brother who’s affected by acute dementia.

“Very sadly, we couldn’t carry him house to the UK due to coronavirus.

“Right now of stress, I obtained a Tweet from what I perceived to be a keyboard warrior and it pushed me over the sting. I’m very sorry I reacted so unexpectedly.”

Folks can obtain £94.25 per week of statutory sick pay if they’re too sick to work, paid as much as 28 weeks.

Self-employed employees should not eligible, however informal or company employees are.
