Coronavirus: Mayor apologises for PM ‘deserves this’ feedback

Sheila Oakes admitted she “made a mistake”

A city mayor has apologised for saying Prime Minister Boris Johnson “utterly deserves this” after he was admitted to intensive care.

Sheila Oakes, who’s the mayor of Heanor in Derbyshire, made the feedback under a Fb put up in regards to the information.

The Amber Valley Labour Group stated it had withdrawn the whip, which means she is not a Labour councillor.

Ms Oakes has since apologised and accepted she “made a mistake”.

In response to a put up asking folks to say a “little prayer” for the prime minister on Monday night time, Ms Oakes had written: “Sorry, he utterly deserves this and he is without doubt one of the worst PMs we have ever had.”

On Tuesday, Ms Oakes stated she “apologised for upsetting folks and saying it”.

She instructed the BBC: “I did not suppose what I stated would upset so many individuals. It got here throughout as not a pleasant factor to say.

Chris Emmas-Williams, the chief of Amber Valley Labour group, stated there could be an investigation into Ms Oakes’ conduct.

He stated: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and never what the Labour Celebration are about.

“I’ve not made the feedback however I really feel as chief of the Labour group I’ve to apologise as effectively to Boris Johnson and his household and we want him effectively as a result of we want everybody attainable to struggle this illness.”
