Jeremy Hunt has said that he wants to move towards a lower-tax economy, but that it must be done in a responsible way.
Pressed by the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg on whether he had made a mistake in “sending a message” he was “eager” to do tax cuts, the chancellor said he needed to be “prudent”.
His comments came ahead of next Wednesday’s budget.
