The SNP Westminster chief accused the prime minster of constructing an “unprecedented assault” on devolution within the UK at PMQs.

Ian Blackford mentioned the devolved parliaments in Wales, Scotland and Northern Eire have rejected the Brexit invoice, including: “Scotland mentioned no and we meant it.”

Mr Johnson picked up on that phrase and recalled the 2014 independence reference, telling him: “Scotland mentioned no they usually meant it.”
