Shadow transport secretary Andy McDonald has referred to as the federal government’s plan to reopen elements of the railway community closed below the Beeching cuts “disingenuous”.
He stated the launch of a £500m fund – promised within the Conservative manifesto – was a “rehash” that will have little affect on the expertise of passengers.
“To herald it because the reversal of the Beeching cuts is, fairly frankly, a sick joke,” Mr McDonald added.
