The threats to Britain at the moment are “better than within the Chilly Battle” when the UK was spending twice on defence it does now, the defence choose committee chairman has stated.
Referencing an incident with Russian forces in disputed waters round Crimea on Wednesday, Conservative MP Tobias Ellwood praised the HMS Defender group for “ignoring the intimidation of the Russians”.
However he advised MPs Britain would “want a much bigger navy” to defend itself in worldwide waters.
