BRUSSELS, Nov 15 (Reuters)The European Union filed a grievance on the World Commerce Group on Friday towards Colombia over duties imposed on frozen potato fries from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Colombia imposed anti-dumping duties of between 3% and eight% on frozen fries for 2 years in November 2018 after complaining that the costs of those imports had been artificially low.

Though small in financial phrases – the EU as an entire exports simply 19 million euros ($20.9 million) of frozen fries to Colombia per 12 months – the dispute is massive in symbolism notably for Belgium, which argues that it invented the “French” fry.

The duties have an effect on 85% of EU exports of frozen fries to Colombia.

The duties breached WTO regulation by way of substance and due to the process to place them in place, the European Fee stated.
