Bayer reaches settlement to postpone extra glyphosate lawsuits for settlement talks


FRANKFURT, Dec 6 (Reuters)Germany’s Bayer BAYGn.DE has agreed with plaintiffs to postpone its subsequent two U.S. lawsuits over the alleged cancer-causing results of its glyphosate-based weed killers to permit extra time for talks on a settlement.

The corporate, which is going through 42,700 U.S. plaintiffs, is extensively anticipated to ultimately purchase itself out of the litigation, with analysts at present estimating the dimensions of a future settlement at $8-$12 billion.

Bayer agreed with the plaintiff to delay for about six months a case within the California Superior Courtroom for Lake County scheduled for Jan. 15, an organization spokesman mentioned in a written assertion.

A second case attributable to start on Jan. 21 within the California Superior Courtroom for Alameda County would even be postponed till a date but to be decided.

Bayer mentioned the postponements would supply extra time for it and representatives of the plaintiffs to “interact constructively within the mediation course of”.
