WASHINGTON, Oct 10 (Reuters)Boeing Co BA.N stated on Thursday that airways had inspected 810 of the corporate’s 737 NG jets all over the world and discovered 38 structural cracks requiring restore and substitute of the affected elements.

The planes will likely be grounded till the repairs are made, Boeing and airline officers stated. Nearly 5% of inspections have discovered cracks in a “pickle fork” — an element that attaches the airplane’s fuselage, or physique, to the wing construction and manages forces.

The 737 NG is the third-generation 737 and model earlier than the now grounded 737 MAX, which isn’t impacted by the cracking problem.

On Wednesday, Southwest Airways Co LUV.N and Brazil’s Gol Linhas Aereas GOLL4.SA grounded at the least 13 737 NG airplanes after U.S. regulators ordered pressing inspections. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) final week informed U.S plane operators to examine 165 older 737 NGs for structural cracks.
