SALAR DE AGUILAR, Nov 28 (Reuters) – Chile has requested prime lithium miner SQM to determine by yr’s finish what it’ll do with its holdings within the Maricunga salt flat, the nation’s second richest in lithium, the nation’s mining minister informed Reuters.
Although Maricunga’s 90 sq. miles (145 sq. km) make it lower than 5 p.c the dimensions of the lithium-rich Salar de Atacama in northern Chile, high-grade deposits of the ultralight battery metallic nonetheless make it enticing to miners. However fractured possession has slowed growth.
“We’ve got requested SQM, which has holdings on the flat, to take part in a piece group to find out what it’ll do with them,” Mining Minister Baldo Prokurica informed Reuters.
Prokurica mentioned he had requested SQM to reply by “yr’s finish.”
