CHICAGO, Oct 9 (Reuters) – Delta Air Traces DAL.N pilots are receiving report extra time, straining the airline’s labor prices, partly as a result of it has added extra flights to fill a provide hole left by the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX at rival carriers, union officers instructed Reuters.
The surge in extra time highlights a break up within the fortunes of U.S. airline staff as carriers like Delta, which doesn’t fly the MAX, scramble to fulfill demand whereas workers at rivals like Southwest Airways LUV.N and American Airways AAL.O sit at residence on primary pay.
Delta issued a report 40,554 “inexperienced slips” – double-pay for extra time flying – between Could and August, double the identical interval in 2018, in response to pilot union Delta Grasp Government Council, a unit of the Air Line Pilots Affiliation.
“There have been weekend days that I’d rise up to 10 calls a day to select up an additional shift or an additional flight,” Delta pilot Dana Dann-Messier, who flies a Boeing 717, instructed Reuters.
