“Lankan Boat Building Sector has USD 200 Mn forex earning potential”

The Boat and Marine Show – Sri Lanka 2023,’ held at the Port City Marina in Colombo ended yesterday. This groundbreaking choice establishes it as the largest boat and marine exhibition in the nation, with a primary focus on showcasing Sri Lanka’s prowess in recreational boating, yachting, marine tourism, boat building, and associated services for both the export and domestic markets.

Inaugurating the event on Friday Minister of Plantation and Health, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said as at last month boat builders and exporters have gained USD 67 million export revenue and hopefully this will go upto USD 85-90 million by the end of the year and this particular sector has the potential to go up to USD 200 million in a short period of time if the industry concentrates and developed the business,

“We have seen the strength of the Sri Lankan boat builders in the marine sector over a period of time.Last year we were going through economic difficulties but the general industrial sector including yours done reasonably well to ensure that you have a strong foothold in the country and this year you have come to your normal business activities,” the minister said.

It is anticipated that the event will attract buyers, enthusiasts, and industry professionals from various countries, including India, Singapore, the Maldives, South Korea, Belgium, the Middle East, Germany, Holland, LIK, Seychelles, and more.
