PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency’s Commercial Banking Circle on Saturday arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in unlawful hundi hawala business and running an unregistered currency exchange, officials said.

They said the accused were arrested during a raid conducted in Battagram district. They added that over Rs100,000, 620 Saudi riyals and 1,000 Afghani were recovered from their possession.

“The team arrested Abdul Wahab and Mir Salam. The team also recovered local and international currency as the accused failed to justify the origin of the amount in their possession,” an FIA official said, adding that the accused were charged under different sections of the relevant law and were being interrogated.

On Wednesday, the agency had arrested four persons for running illegal currency exchange during raids conducted in Swat and Lower Dir districts of the Malakand division. The raiding teams recovered Rs2.16 million and 1,850 Saudi riyals from them.
