The European Union has awarded 10 million euros ($11.05 million) in funding to a scheme that’s aiming to put in an ammonia-powered gas cell on a ship.

The beneficiary of the cash, the ShipFC undertaking, is a consortium of 14 companies and establishments co-ordinated by NCE Maritime CleanTech.

The undertaking will contain the modification of Eidesvik Offshore’s “Viking Vitality” ship. The vessel has been utilized by Norwegian vitality main Equinor for 17 years.
