The former home secretary has told her party it was “now or never” to act over illegal migration into the UK.

Suella Braverman was giving a personal statement in the Commons, after her sacking last month by Rishi Sunak.

She said ministers were “running out of time” to publish legislation after the Supreme Court ruled the government’s plan to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda unlawful.

And she ended by telling the PM that if he led the fight for the interests of the British people then he would have her “total support”.

The new Home Secretary James Cleverley has returned from Rwanda with a treaty, and details of a new government bill on the issue are expected soon.
