A brand new Labour MP who tweeted a picture of herself breastfeeding has mentioned ladies being given the inexperienced gentle to breastfeed within the Commons is “good”.

On Thursday new Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle mentioned: “If it occurs, it occurs. I would not be upset by it.”

Pontypridd Labour MP Alex Davies-Jones mentioned she was “actually proud.”

On Wednesday she posted a picture on Twitter of her breastfeeding her child Sullivan to mark 10 months of breastfeeding.

When requested if she can be breastfeeding her baby within the chamber, she mentioned: “By no means say by no means, if the time arises.

“I will not do it for the sake of doing it or for it to be a gimmick [but] I am within the chamber for hours on finish and it is good to have the choice to do it.”

Labour MP Harriet Harman, who ran towards Sir Lindsay for the position of Speaker, was one of many first MPs to breastfeed her baby within the Commons within the 1980s.

Talking to reporters in Westminster on Thursday, Sir Lindsay, who’s chargeable for MPs’ conduct within the Commons, mentioned: “My view is, it’s as much as the girl.

“I believe it could be unsuitable for me as a person to dictate on that coverage. If it occurs, it occurs. I would not be upset by it.”
