A bodyguard for David Cameron is being investigated after he reportedly left his gun in a rest room on a transatlantic jet.

A “terrified passenger” discovered the gun and gave it to employees on a British Airways flight from New York to London on Monday, according to the Daily Mail.

As a former prime minister, Mr Cameron is entitled to continued safety supplied by the Metropolitan Police.

The Met mentioned the officer concerned has been faraway from operational duties.

Mr Cameron’s staff mentioned it couldn’t touch upon safety issues.

The gun, believed to be a 9mm Glock 17 pistol, is claimed to have been left by a close-protection officer from the Met’s Specialist Safety unit, who took off his holster whereas in the bathroom.

Mr Cameron’s passport – and that of the officer’s – have been discovered with the weapon, according to the Sun.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson mentioned: “We’re conscious of the incident on a flight into the UK on February three and the officer concerned has since been faraway from operational duties.

“We’re taking this matter extraordinarily critically and an inside investigation is going down.”

Mr Cameron was the UK prime minister for six years till July 2016, when he stepped down following the results of the EU referendum.
