The federal government is to make the ultimate determination on whether or not to proceed with the excessive pace rail hyperlink HS2 on Thursday.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Chancellor Sajid Javid and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps will meet to return to a last place.

It’s not but clear when the federal government intends to announce the ultimate determination.

It follows a leaked assessment of the mission suggesting it may price virtually double the £56bn initially anticipated in 2015.

Section 1 of the rail line between London and Birmingham is because of open on the finish of 2026, with the second part to Leeds and Manchester scheduled for completion by 2032-33.

It’s designed to hold trains able to travelling at 250mph.

Billions have already been spent on HS2, however Mr Shapps has refused to rule out scrapping it fully.

The transport secretary revealed final week he had requested for extra information earlier than making a “huge determination” on HS2, after a leaked authorities assessment discovered it may price £106bn.

The unpublished report, which was leaked to the Financial Times, mentioned there was “appreciable threat” that estimated prices may rise by one other 20%.

The federal government had beforehand promised to decide on HS2 earlier than the top of 2019.
