MELBOURNE, Jan 31 (Reuters) – Alcoa Corp’s Australian
aluminium smelter was hit by an influence reduce on Friday after a
transmission line tripped amid hovering temperatures within the
nation’s southeast, the Australian Power Market Operator stated.
AEMO, which manages electrical energy provide, stated the
transmission line outage “has resulted in a separation between
Victoria and South Australia on the Heywood Interconnector, as
effectively as interrupting provide on the Portland aluminium smelter.”
“At roughly 2:20 p.m. EST on 31 January, Portland
Aluminium smelter misplaced energy to each potlines on account of a fault
exterior to the plant. The reason for the fault is at the moment
unknown,” an Alcoa spokeswoman stated in emailed feedback.
