MELBOURNE, Oct 30 (Reuters) – AGL Vitality AGL.AX, Australia’s largest energy producer, stated on Wednesday it’s working onerous to make sure its two greatest single prospects, the Portland and Tomago aluminium smelters, stay open.
“We are going to work as a great citizen to do all the pieces we are able to to maintain these smelters going,” AGL Chief Govt Brett Redman instructed analysts at an investor briefing.
Portland smelter operator Alcoa Inc AA.N and Tomago co-owner Rio Tinto RIO.AXRIO.L have each flagged that their smelting operations are fighting low aluminium costs and excessive alumina enter prices.
Hovering energy costs have hit Tomago as properly, whereas Portland has survived with the assistance of subsidies from the state of Victoria and the Australian authorities via June 2021.
