QINGDAO, China, Nov 14 (Reuters) – China Hongqiao Group 1378.HK, the world’s no. 1 aluminium provider, will transfer nearly a 3rd of its smelting capability to Yunnan in southwest China from its Shandong base, its chairman mentioned on Thursday, chopping its reliance on coal-fired energy.
Hongqiao plans to maneuver 2 million tonnes of capability to Wenshan prefecture, within the southeast of hydropower-rich Yunnan province, Zhang Bo advised Reuters, talking on the sidelines of the China Aluminum Week discussion board in Qingdao.
“It is primarily to regulate the power construction of Hongqiao, with practically one-third of the manufacturing capability utilizing hydropower and clear power in Yunnan,” mentioned Zhang.
Hongqiao, which has relied on coal-fired energy for the energy-intensive smelting course of so far, can be engaged on a solar energy challenge within the northeast coast province of Shandong, he mentioned.
