China’s Could unwrought copper imports fall m/m on record-high costs

June 7 (Reuters)China’s copper imports fell 8% in Could from the earlier month, customs information confirmed on Monday, as record-high costs additional eroded shopping for curiosity on the earth’s high shopper of the metallic.

Imports of unwrought copper and copper merchandise fell for a second consecutive month to 445,725 tonnes in Could, the Common Administration of Customs stated.

That was down from 484,890 tonnes in April however up from 436,030 tonnes in Could 2020.

Benchmark London copper costs CMCU3 rose 4.4% final month, hitting an all-time peak of $10,747.50 a tonne on Could 10. Costs have hovered at uncomfortably excessive ranges for customers for many of this 12 months, fuelled by a post-lockdown resurgence in demand and easing liquidity globally.

That compares with 437,284.50 tonnes in April, and 382,934.50 tonnes in Could 2020.
