Nov 25 (Reuters)Delta Air Strains Inc DAL.N pilots voted in favor of a deal that avoids furloughs by Jan. 1, 2022 in alternate for pay cuts, a union representing the pilots stated on Wednesday.

The 1,713 Delta pilots, who had been anticipated to be furloughed on Nov. 28, will now obtain a partial pay of 30 hours a month together with medical advantages and trip accrual, whereas they keep off their jobs.

“I do not assume there’s any higher technique to welcome within the Thanksgiving season than with the achievement of defending all our pilots from furlough,” Delta’s head of flight operations John Laughter stated in a memo addressed to staff.

The airline business has been hit exhausting by the coronavirus outbreak that introduced journey to a close to halt, with Delta and different airways left scrambling to chop prices and increase liquidity as gross sales plunged.

“This settlement will assist Delta navigate the COVID disaster and emerge a stronger airline ultimately,” Delta MEC, a unit of the Air Line Pilots Affiliation, stated in a press release.
