Ethiopia issues tender to buy 400,000 tonnes wheat, traders say

Adds detail from paragraph four

HAMBURG, Oct 18 (Reuters)An Ethiopian government agency has issued a new international tender to buy about 400,000 tonnes of milling wheat, European traders said on Monday.

The deadline for submission of price offers in the tender is Nov. 30.

A separate tender for 200,000 tonnes of wheat for Ethiopia issued in cooperation with a United Nations agency closes on Nov. 9.

Ethiopia is struggling with the impact of extreme weather from drought to floods along with conflict in the north of the country.

More than 13.6 million people are estimated to be food insecure, according to the World Food Programme, but Ethiopia has struggled to buy wheat in international markets in recent months.

Traders said purchases have been hampered by a lack of participation by trading houses partly because of uncertainty about tender procedures and specifications.
