MEXICO CITY, Jan 30 (Reuters)Contemporary battle traces are being drawn that would result in farm commerce restrictions between the USA and Mexico, a letter from a high Mexican commerce official seen by Reuters reveals, regardless of the goodwill generated by the newly-signed USMCA commerce pact.

In response to a letter earlier this month from the highest U.S. commerce negotiator pledging protectionist measures for farmers within the politically necessary states of Florida and Georgia, Mexico is promising to retaliate in type if such steps are taken.

“If the U.S. authorities seeks any motion of this type towards Mexican agricultural exports, the federal government of Mexico will apply related measures to U.S. merchandise,” Mexican Deputy Commerce Minister Luz Maria de la Mora wrote within the letter seen by Reuters.
