Glencore to return Prodeco coal mining contracts to Colombia


Sept 6 (Reuters)Glencore subsidiary Prodeco will hand again its Colombian coal mining concessions after the nation’s nationwide mining company (ANM) accepted an initially rejected request.

The Anglo-Swiss firm this 12 months mentioned that the operations on the Calenturitas and La Jagua mines, which had been put in care and maintenace in March 2020, can be handed again to Colombia as a result of a restart of its operations wouldn’t be viable.

The preliminary request was rejected by the ANM due to excellent obligations, together with environmental administration.

On Monday Glencore mentioned Prodeco will comply totally with all its environmental and social obligations and that the mines will stay on care and upkeep till the formal course of is full.
