JAKARTA/WASHINGTON Nov 8 (Reuters)Lion Air has discovered structural cracks in two Boeing Co BA.N 737 NG planes with fewer flights than a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) threshold for checks, Indonesia’s aviation security regulator stated on Friday.

The invention might make it extra possible the FAA would require airline operators to examine 737 NGs with fewer than 22,600 cycles, which had not been mandated beforehand. Every cycle sometimes represents one flight, with a takeoff and a touchdown.

The cracks are on what is named the “pickle fork,” an element that attaches the airplane’s fuselage, or physique, to the wing construction.

An FAA spokesman stated the company had requested operators to report any cracks so it might assess whether or not it wanted to vary its inspection orders.

The Lion Air jets with cracks had fewer than 22,000 cycles and are actually grounded for repairs, a spokesman for the airline stated.
