INSIGHT-After Ethiopia crash, victims’ kin say they had been hounded by U.S. regulation companies

NAIROBI/ADDIS ABABA, Dec 23 (Reuters)Days after the March 10 crash of a Kenya-bound Ethiopian Airways’ Boeing jet that killed all 157 individuals on board, strangers started calling or visiting bereaved households, saying they represented U.S. regulation companies.

They confirmed up uninvited at memorials and at houses stuffed with weeping kin. They chilly referred to as. They left brochures. In a single case a grieving husband was supplied cash for an appointment. One girl supplied counselling and one other mentioned she was creating an emotional help group, with out disclosing they had been working for legal professionals.

Reuters interviewed 37 kin of the victims, or their representatives, and located that 31 complained of inappropriate approaches by these saying they represented U.S. regulation companies.

In some situations, the behaviour could have been unlawful or unethical beneath U.S. legal guidelines and guidelines barring solicitation and misleading practices, a number of authorized ethics consultants mentioned.
