Iran accuses Europe of yielding to ‘highschool bully’ Trump in nuclear row

DUBAI/PARIS, Jan 16 (Reuters)Iran stated on Thursday three European states had succumbed to “highschool bully” Donald Trump after they triggered a dispute mechanism in a nuclear pact the U.S. president opposes, a step that might finally result in reimposing U.N. sanctions.

The pact, referred to as the JCPoA, was agreed in 2015 between Tehran and world powers, providing Iran sanctions reduction if it curbed its nuclear work. Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018 and reimposed U.S. sanctions, saying he wished a harder deal.

Iran has responded by scaling again its compliance with phrases of the pact, saying this month it rejected all limits on uranium enrichment, though it says it needs to maintain the deal in place.

Britain, France and Germany triggered the accord’s dispute mechanism this week. London stated it was now time for a “Trump deal” to exchange it, whereas Paris stated broad talks had been wanted.
