Nike seeks to maintain advertising executives out of Michael Avenatti trial

NEW YORK, Jan 2 (Reuters)Nike Inc NKE.N requested a decide to dam Michael Avenatti from having 5 of its sports activities advertising officers testify at his upcoming felony trial, calling their testimony irrelevant as to whether the California lawyer tried to extort the corporate.

In a Thursday submitting in Manhattan federal courtroom, Nike known as Avenatti’s subpoenas for testimony from sports activities advertising chief John Slusher and others a part of an effort to “put the federal government’s and Nike’s conduct on trial,” and distract jurors from his personal conduct.

Attorneys for Avenatti didn’t instantly reply to requests for remark.

Avenatti turned well-known representing porn star Stormy Daniels and criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump.

Prosecutors have accused Avenatti of demanding as much as $25 million from Nike in change for not publicizing allegations it made improper funds to prime school basketball recruits, and for being employed to…
