TAUCHE, Germany, Feb 3 (Reuters) – The German state of
Brandenburg has erected about 120 km (75 miles) of electrical
fencing to stop wild boars contaminated with African swine fever
(ASF) from straying throughout the border from Poland and infecting
its pig herd.
Hans-Christian Daniels does not suppose the barrier will work.
“It appears to be like reasonably inevitable that swine fever will come,”
mentioned Daniels, whose farm close to Tauche, near the Polish
border, has 11,000 pigs. “This might trigger a dramatic fall in
costs.”
ASF, which has led to the deaths of 1 / 4 of the world’s
pigs in China and roiled the worldwide meat business, is
dangerously near Germany, Europe’s largest pork producer.
