DUBLIN, Jan 7 (Reuters)Ryanair RYA.I slashed its annual site visitors forecast by round 5 million passengers on Thursday, citing recent lockdowns in the UK and Eire launched to curb a extremely contagious new variant of COVID-19.

The Irish low-cost provider, Europe’s largest, stated it will considerably reduce its flight schedules from Jan. 21 till the top of the present lockdown.

The British and Irish measures “will end in few, if any, flights being operated to/from Eire or the UK from the top of Jan till such time as these draconian journey restrictions are eliminated,” Ryanair stated in an announcement.

In consequence, Ryanair has reduce its site visitors forecast for its monetary yr, which finish on March 31, from its present forecast of “under 35 million” to between 26 and 30 million passengers, the assertion stated.

“Ryanair doesn’t anticipate these flight cuts and additional site visitors reductions will materially have an effect on its internet loss for the yr to 31 March 2021 since many of those flights would have been loss making,” the assertion stated.
