SOFTS-Robusta coffee prices edge higher, raw sugar slips

LONDON, Sept 17 (Reuters)Robusta coffee futures on ICE rose on Friday, edging towards a four-year high set this month, while sugar and New York cocoa prices eased.

COFFEE

* November robusta coffee LRCc2 rose 0.3% to $2,114 a tonne by 1037 GMT. The benchmark second position set a four-year high of $2,130 this month.

* The market continued to derive support from concerns that the flow of supplies from top robusta producer Vietnam could face disruptions related to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as ongoing shortages of container freight capacity.

* Coffee prices have ticked up in recent weeks as the near-term supply outlook has been depressed by hot and dry weather in Brazil and Colombia, coupled with pandemic-related export disruption in Vietnam, Fitch Solutions said.

* December arabica coffee KCc2 rose 0.1% to $1.8840 per lb.

SUGAR

* October raw sugar SBc1 was down 1% at 19.30 cents per lb.

* Dealers said a stronger dollar and weaker energy prices had contributed to the modest setback in prices, though the market remained on track for a weekly gain of 2.7%.

* December white sugar LSUc1 fell 1.15% to $507.00 a tonne.

COCOA

* December New York cocoa CCc1 fell 0.3% to $2,649 a tonne, pressured by a strong dollar.

* Dealers said the market was also struggling to absorb a large global surplus in the 2020/21 season, which ends this month.

* December London cocoa LCCc1 was unchanged at 1,816 pounds a tonne.
