WASHINGTON, Dec 9 (Reuters)America stated on Wednesday it was exercising its rights below the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) commerce settlement to problem Canada’s allocation of dairy tariff-rate quotas.

“Canada’s measures violate its commitments and hurt U.S dairy farmers and producers,” U.S. Commerce Consultant Robert Lighthizer stated in a press release.

If america and Canada aren’t in a position to resolve Washington’s issues via consultations, america could request the institution of a USMCA dispute settlement panel on the difficulty, the USTR stated.

“We’re dissatisfied that Canada’s insurance policies have made this primary ever enforcement motion below the USMCA obligatory to make sure compliance with the settlement,” Lighthizer stated.
