WASHINGTON, Feb 25 (Reuters)U.S. Commerce Consultant Robert Lighthizer will meet with Britain’s commerce minister Liz Truss this week, British authorities officers stated on Tuesday, as the 2 allies gear up for post-Brexit commerce talks that would show contentious.

Lighthizer’s journey to Britain will even embrace a speaking engagement on the Oxford Union on March 2. His assembly with Truss was confirmed by a spokeswoman on the British embassy in Washington. A USTR spokesman didn’t reply to a question about Lighthizer’s British itinerary.

Truss has stated that Britain would search far-reaching reductions in U.S. tariffs in commerce talks that might run alongside negotiations over its future relationship with the European Union.

However the British authorities has but to publish formal negotiating targets for talks with Washington, a transfer that commerce consultants say may come quickly. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s cupboard has agreed negotiating targets for the EU closing divorce talks and is ready to publish them on Thursday.
