WTO to look at U.S.-China dispute on grain import quotas


GENEVA, Aug 30 (Reuters)The World Commerce Group stated on Monday it could evaluate a long-standing dispute between the China and the US on Beijing’s use of import controls for rice, wheat and corn.

The Geneva-based commerce watchdog dominated in 2019 towards China’s use of tariff-rate quotas for agricultural imports, which Washington efficiently argued had restricted market entry for U.S. grain exports. Such quotas permit a specified amount of products to be imported at decrease charges than traditional.

China has stated it has since carried out the WTO suggestions however the US doesn’t agree and final month stated it was entitled to take “countermeasures” towards Beijing, with out offering particulars of the extent of retaliation.
